Jean-Michel Jarre to Open ADE 2026: Oxygène at 50 Meets ADE at 30

Amsterdam Dance Event doesn't usually do "opening ceremonies." For its 30th anniversary, it's making an exception — and it's a big one. Jean-Michel Jarre, the French pioneer whose work helped carry electronic music from the studio to the stadium, has been named ADE 2026's special guest of honour and will play the festival's official opening concert on Wednesday 21 October at AFAS Live, presented by MOJO and Insomniac.

Why Jarre, and why now

The symbolism is almost too neat. As ADE turns 30, Jarre's landmark album Oxygène turns 50. Released in 1976, it's one of the records most often credited with bringing electronic music to a mass global audience — a bridge between the experimental fringes and the mainstream that everything at ADE, in one way or another, descends from. Honouring Jarre at the 30th edition is ADE drawing a line from its own present back to one of the genre's founding moments.

What to expect from the show

Jarre doesn't do small. His live productions are legendary for turning venues — and, famously, entire cityscapes — into immersive audiovisual environments. For ADE he's promised the full treatment: in his words, "different atmosphere, different stage design, mapping, giant projections and architectures of lights." AFAS Live, a roughly 6,000-capacity room in Amsterdam's southeast arena district, becomes a single shared listening space for the night — a concert experience rather than a club night, and a very deliberate way to open a festival built on the music he helped popularize. Full details are on our Jarre at ADE 2026 event page.

He's also speaking at ADE Pro

Beyond the concert, Jarre will sit for an exclusive keynote interview at ADE Pro, the festival's daytime conference — a rare chance to hear one of electronic music's true originators reflect on five decades of the form. If you're attending the industry side, it's a marquee session. See the ADE Pro 2026 details for how passes work.

How to see it

Tickets for the opening concert are sold via MOJO / Ticketmaster; ADE Pro passes (which cover the keynote) are via the official Amsterdam Dance Event site, where early-bird tiers are cheapest and go first. A reminder that we're an independent guide — not the official organizer or a ticket seller — so always confirm on the official channels before you buy.

The bigger picture

As of now, Jarre is the headline confirmation for ADE 2026; the wider club and festival programming rolls out in waves through the autumn. If the opener is any signal, the 30th edition is aiming for something with weight and history behind it.
